Personal and Family
My wife Claire and I live in the Unionville area. We love the hometown community atmosphere where everyone seems to know each other. Claire is my rock, and her steadfast support and sense of humor help me in all areas, including my career and personal pursuits. We have a young man, Grooms, and a young lady, Lily, who attend Piedmont High School and Piedmont Middle School, respectively. I was born and raised in Indian Trail and I feel fortunate to call Union County my lifelong home.
I am the proud son of Wayne and Mary Smith, who shaped me into the man I am today. Growing up they taught my sister, brother and me the importance of family and faith. They exemplified honesty, integrity, generosity and compassion. Growing up in our family-owned nursery, there was always plenty of work to do, which taught us discipline and a strong work ethic. I am fortunate to enjoy support from my family, Union County residents, law enforcement and the legal community.
When I am not working or spending time with my family, I love to work out. I participate in Spartan Obstacle Course racing. I travel around the country to participate in these endurance events. Racing has taught me how to push beyond my perceived limits to accomplish things I never thought possible. Our family loves to travel. We enjoy working in the yard and the occasional “friendly” game of Cornhole or basketball. My wife and I love to try out new restaurants. However, we do have a favorite spot in Monroe that we visit often.
